The Serio Falls: a spectacle of nature
Nothing is more beautiful than going to the mountains and personally enjoying the splendor of nature. A visit to the Cascate del Serio is one of those activities that cannot be missed on the to-do list.
They are located in Alta Val Seriana and more precisely in one of the secondary valleys that flow into it, the Val Bondione.
They originate from the river of the same name, a few kilometers after the source in the Alpi Orobie at an altitude of 1750m. They are among the highest in Italy, as the water falls from a height of about 315 meters divided into three main drops, at 166, 74, and 75 meters. Before the dam upstream was built, on rare occasions of persistent rain, one could admire the plunge in a unique drop.
It is possible to reach the best observation points, equipped for trekking along the path that starts from Valbondione towards Rifugio Antonio Curò (1915 m). For those looking for a more challenging route, it is possible to choose the shorter itinerary, but with greater slope to reach the refuge. It is also possible to walk along the scenic road that climbs in hairpin bends along the valley and ends near the Lago Barbellino.
It is possible to hike during the 5 annual openings from the best observation point and the path is easy to follow.
Starting from the Palazzetto dello Sport in Valbondione, which is located on Via T. Pacati, once you exit the parking lot, turn left and start walking on the road. At the first junction, keep right towards Lizzola.
After the first curve, walk 200 meters until you take Via Curò on the left. After a short while, the road becomes a path that enters the woods. Continuing, you reach the cable car used for the supplies of the refuge.
The path exits the woods and continues uphill until it intersects the CAI path.
Continue left until you walk along an airstrip carved into the rock of Monte Verme and shortly after you will reach the Rifugio Curò.
